What is Branding?
Often, people think of branding simply as a logo. And while your logo is undoubtedly important, it does not make a full brand. Your brand is the combination of elements (logos, typography, colors, patterns, photos, etc.) that paint a full picture of who you are and what sets you apart from other businesses.
This picture you paint is essential to how others perceive your business. It’s why Target is often coveted over Walmart, despite Walmart’s lower prices. It’s why people line up at the mall to buy an iPhone over an Android. These brands have set themselves apart in a way that people are attracted to and can’t help but fall in love with.
Branding is the secret sauce that — when done right — attracts customers like magic. When your brand stands out from the crowd, speaks to your ideal customers, and evokes the right feelings, people are eager and willing to jump on board with you.
Mediocre vs. High-Level Branding
At the most basic level, you can create a logo on Canva and a color palette from Pinterest and you’ll have yourself a brand. However, you may be limiting yourself. Cookie-cutter branding takes away two essential components that ensure a brand’s success: consistency and uniqueness. While these methods can work in a pinch, they likely won’t grow with you as a business or stand out among competitors.
On the other hand, high-level branding is rooted in strategy and primed for growth. A holistic brand takes into consideration who your target audience is, what your competitors are doing, and your long-term vision for your business, and uses design to tell that story effectively. A high-level brand evokes a unique and distinct personality that, when maintained consistently, ensures a brand is long-lasting and drives significant growth.
When done right, branding is a solid foundation for everything else you do in your business. It becomes your north star to ensure that your business is always telling the same story and attracting the right attention.
Building and designing a full, high-level brand can be overwhelming. Not to mention, there is a lot of conflicting information online about what is needed vs. not. This checklist outlines everything we include in our custom design services — from the initial strategy to the final design elements.
